Management Development at an E&P Company

Oil & Gas Management Development: developing capabilities

The Client: An independent E&P company with assets in the Middle East.

The Challenge:   WBC was approached to deliver a management development programme that would help build a cadre of local supervisors and managers; nurture high potential staff; develop the leadership skills required for a major step up in activity, and bring together head-office, local office and field staff..  Attendees needed to understand what a good manager is and does and to look at their role and to identify where and how to improve.

Four key steps were taken

  1. Worked with the client to design and develop a customised, local and flagship classroom based programme.
  2. Brought in a WBC subject matter expert specific to the client’s needs.
  3. Ensured the course was consistent with and built on other client training initiatives
  4. Arranged local logistics to deliver a highly engaging and interactive course.

By applying the course concepts and techniques the client has:

  • Supported localisation and succession planning efforts.
  • Built new capabilities required as the company embarks on a growth strategy.
  • Demonstrated to government that the company is developing local staff.
  • Gained the confidence and management capability to drive the business forward.
  • Developed and motivated a performance led organisation.
  • Given the team the tools to step up a gear to meet the new challenges.
